if the last election was anything to go by, the medias attitude to the BNP is just to pretend it doesnt exist. its like its intellectually passe to critcise them because, well, everyone knows theyre bad. well unfortunately theres a lot of misinformed, very poor people in areas like oldham for which that strategy doent work. about ten years ago, when the BNP actually got an MP elected to parliament, obviously they would have been condemned right left and centre by the media, whereas now its very worrying the way the oldham problems have been brushed under the carpet. notice it was mainly young people involved in the rioting. what the middle class media has to accept is that there might actually be people in britain, especially if they happen to be young and from poor areas of the country, who might quite concievably not realise that the BNP is a racist organisation. im actually glad to see that they let that bloke on newsnight, thats a start. the fact is that in new labours new ultra political era of spin and bureaucracy gone mad, things like the oldham riots dont quite fit, and as such have been largely ignored by the media.
