I hear ya man, I really do. The problem is, this area doesn't have a station that serves the audience who'd appreciate that kind of music. I mean, if any station in this area "should" be playing that kind of music, we're not the station formatically closest to that genre. We're a Top 40/Contemporary Hits radio station, and nonoe of those acts are or have been on a Top 40/Contemporary Hits chart.
I agree, in that I think there needs to be a station that serves an audience who'd dig that kind of music, but I've only lived here a little over a year, so I couldn't say if there's enough of an audience to keep a station like that on the air here or not.
We reach over that way from time to time to play the occasional Stain'd, Chili Peppers, Stone Sour, Nickelback, Default, etc. But we feel like we're doing the best we can to serve the most people possible with what we do. We've climbed to #2 overall in the market, and hopefully that trend will continue.
I honestly do think some "heavy" rock music like that WOULD run off our more pop-friendly audience. That'd be like assuming that hip-hop wouldn't run off some listeners, either, and it frankly would. That's why we play it - occasionally - in a timeframe more suitable for the audience who'd appreciate it.
