LINDA,
(turns off cap lock) hehhee...Thanks for listening and keeping up with Cenla Idol.
Linda, Cenla Idol is first and foremost - a talent contest. MOST talent contests simply have judges who make the decisions without public participation. We chose to involve the listeners.
I don't know which contestant you're referring to as being "the Avoyelles" anointed one, but I think I have an idea.
Hey, my opinion is what it is...and I won't shy away from it. Some of our contestants can REALLY sing...and some can REALLY get votes. But some can't do both.
I've had a chance to work with each and every contestant in the morning, and they're all wonderful young people...ALL of 'em. Being wonderful people, and having hundreds of friends and family members call to vote for them, to me, doesn't make them a singing star.
What aggravates me is having to answer the phones and watch people vote solely based on the parish the person comes from, or because they work with the contestant, or because their mother, father or close friend, called them and asked them to call in and vote.
That's not the spirit of the contest. It's a "talent" contest. Those with the most talent should and will win Cenla Idol, pure and simple. The voting yesterday and today actually seem to show that the vast majority of our listeners DO hear talent and WILL vote for it, as well.
I can appreciate relatives rallying to vote for their loved ones. I can appreciate the friends doing the same. But if you're simply voting for someone because they're from your parish, then you need to let those who listened to the contestants do the voting. We're asking people to make qualified and educated votes.
David Duke is from Louisiana, but if he ran for President, I wouldn't vote for him just because he's from there.
And, for the record, I've been "accused" of having bias for and against just about every contestant, so the barb doesn't sway me. I'm rooting for TALENT. We're finding it; we're just having to deal with mass numbers of "popularity" votes from people who aren't even tuning us in to hear what's being performed, as well.
Incidentally, there are two contestants from Avoyelles Parish in the semifinals...not just one.
Thank you for your continued interest.
Best wishes,
Ron Roberts
