Subject: By the side of the road (Al'Thaes)

uietly, Ophan walks alongside Al’Thaes through the rain. The huge half giant limps as he tries to match the other’s speed. A dull, throbbing pain emanates from the wounded leg and every other step Al’Thaes’ mouth twitches lightly as he tries to ignore the pain as best he can.
After having moved on this way for a rough half mile, Ophan gestures towards a flat topped stone the size of a big dog by the side of the road.
“Sit there and rest a bit. I’ll be right back,” he says.
With that, he disappears into the forest to emerge a few minutes later with a thick branch under his arm that’s longer than he is. The end of the branch is split in two ways, giving the branch the appearance of a big wooden Y.
Next, Ophan takes out a dull looking, worn knife from his pack that looks as if it’s been around longer than Ophan himself has. The older warrior runs the blade of the knife along the top and the upper half of the longer Y shape, carefully cutting off knobs, buds and stems. Finally, he stands up from his work again and takes out a ragged shirt from his pack, which he begins to wrap around the top of the Y shaped branch. Suddenly, after having been quiet for a while, the human looks up at his tall companion and says: “In case you hadn’t figured it out yet, I’m making you a support for that leg of yours.”
Ophan looks at his handy work and nods as he hands it to Al’Thaes.
“This should help you walk a bit easier,” he says emphatically as he pats the burly half giant on the shoulder, “Feel ready for the next stretch?”
As Al’Thaes examines his new crutch, a wagon comes down the road from the direction he and Ophan just came. The wagon is pulled by a grey mule that looks into the world with complete disinterest. Manning the wagon is a chubby monk, judging by his attire, which is little more than a set of simple, loose brown garments of a rough fabric. Red, puffy cheeks protrude from above the man’s brown beard and a big grin emerges as he spots the two strangers at the side of the road.
“Well hello, greetings and blessed be!” he bellows as he gives a tug at the reigns to stop his wagon in front of the two, “You two look like you could use a ride. Care to ride on the Lady’s wheels?”
Al’Thaes looks at the monk and thinks to himself he’ll almost certainly smell booze if he’d approach the monk within three paces.
