I don't think that the rise in religious fundamentalism AND its impact on world politics is a little nitpicky issue--I think it's something that the western world has been largely ignoring (save for Christian fundamentalism to some extent) and it's bitten us in the butt.

I am all for people having convictions, and taking action. But I admit, I am highly uncomfortable with states being based on holy books and wars being fought over religious persuasions. I am very uncomfortable with people being motivated to act in a way that raises the status of one group over another because of their faith.

I also am concerned about how speaking out against Israel can so easily get labelled anti-semitism, while people feel free to say terrible things about Islam right now. I am concerned by how easily people can hate other people based on cosmetic differences and accidents of birth.
