The original pledge didn't even mention a country -- it was just "to my flag." The writer was hoping that it would become an international pledge. And, yeah, the "under God" part was added to root out the commies.

The really sick part of all this is that it is such a waste of time -- now all these idiot politicians are going to lash onto this essentially non-issue and wash over the real problems we face right now, like Worldcom and real issue of balancing security needs against the potential erosion of our civil liberties.

I think the school voucher ruling is really scary. I hate the thought of tax dollars being used to teach Genesis in science class, or worse, to support some so-called "christian identity" klan school .
