Well, you can't major in scuba diving. :-)

But while I think some kids need structure and rules, others need freedom. I'm a fan of the Summerhill model for schools. And I do think we need to teach kids more than just how to read and add and multiply. We need to give them a broader base than we do (or broader choices, anyway).

We trust kids to learn how to teach themselves most childhood skills, and we trust 18 yos to learn the right things voluntarily at college--why are we so restricting of what kids can learn about between 5 and 18 yo??
