I haven't seen a ton of concerts--grew up in a small town, 300 miles from the city, and then we didn't have much money and then we had kids.
I saw Concrete Blonde in 1991--good, fairly intimate venue, Commodore Ballroom with its legendary horsehair under wood floors (made it springy). I got in with fake id because I was still 18 and underage by a month.
Saw U2 on their Zoo TV tour in 1993. This was the best concert I've been to--the theatrics were pretty cool, and when they brought the catwalk out and played at the end I was then directly in line with the band. We were close enough that when Bono sprayed the audience with champagne, we almost got sprayed. It was so cool, because I'd had a big crush on Bono when I was in high school and I was THIS close to him. And the music was incredible, especially the older stuff.
Saw REM in I think 1995 (May?)--marked the last time I smoked up, too... Anyway, it was a pretty dull concert all things considered.
In addition, I've been to EndFest in Seattle (bad road trip, missed the stuff I really wanted to see, saw L7, Sonic Youth, Toad the Wet Sprocket and a bunch of stuff I've forgotten.) It was grunge island, and we called the kids "lollapoloosers". It was ok, but a really bad road trip.
We went to the annual concert at UBC (forget the name of it now) and the best acts there were by far the Violent Femmes and Barenaked Ladies. They're both great live bands, with the BL being the most fan-friendly band I've ever seen. But this was back in the day before they got so famous... maybe 1992 or 1993?
I think that's it. Never saw Duran Duran, much to my dismay (and now I wouldn't want to). Oh well.
