Doesn't have to be the case, but yes, we do consume more, including stuff that doesn't biodegrade. We have a lot of choices in this regard too, though.

The other thing is that our kids are FORTUNATE to be able to reach their full potential. We're much more likely to produce a child who cures cancer or solves environmental issues than is a child in a poorer country. Not saying we should all have ten kids then, but there are pros and cons.

How much older are we talking? Are you taking care of your financial future? At your age (you're in your mid-20s right?) you shouldn't be worrying so much about old age, LOL. But I know what you mean--and we can't take anything in this life for granted. Whenever I hear of middle aged couples who've lost their only children it breaks my heart.
