I like to watch movies sometimes. However, I am very picky about what I choose to watch and what sort of movies that I like. I've always loved the 'Back to the Future' series, and I like the 'Lord of the Rings' movies, 'A Beautiful Mind', 'The Sound of Music' & 'My Fair Lady' (which are old, but quaint), 'The Mosquito Coast', 'The Mask of Zorro', and some Disney movies (mostly older ones, although I did like 'The Lion King' and 'Mulan'). And there are quite a few others that I enjoy watching over again.

The thing that's good about these movies is that (as you say)there are no commercials in-between, and the ones I choose are what I like and what I want to see. I enjoy them because they otherwise tell a good/interesting story and/ or they were well-crafted (Or - as an artist I would say - 'aethetically pleasing'). I judge them the same way I would judge a book or a song. Of course, I read a lot more books than I watch movies.

If you do watch movies, rent them and see if you like them first. We rarely buy videos or DVDs unless they are good ones that we like. Also, I think it's okay to be entertained by the movies (or the theater) once in a while, but you have to be selective and not forget to 'broaden your horizons' when it comes to entertainment. For example: going to watch a play or hear an orchestra, or playing board games at home or at a friend's house (etc.), instead.

Of course, it's up to you. If you don't feel comfortable watching an occasional movie, don't do it.

I like to fast forward the previews. :)
