I agree that news is a major agitator, and a news moritorium was actually the seed of my later banishment of the TV. A lot of people who are old enough don't remember this - and most people don't believe me when I tell them - but early TV news was part of the station's Public Service and was shown without commercials! Reporting was certainly different when the news departments had no advertisers to appease/answer to.

While I don't agree that "ignorance is bliss", a steady diet of corporate controlled news will leave one malnourished and suffering from the disease of Smallmindedness. The key for me has been to collect information from many diverse sources, seperate the facts from the chaff, and decide for myself what the heck's going on - without the dubious benefit of the pundits.
