HotSheet web directory (hotsheet.com) contains a plethera of news links.

I guess I'm different from other turn-off-your-tv advocates. I find news (both national and local) to be a major source of agitation and anger. So for me, keeping the television turned off means, above all else, keeping the news turned off.

Even so, I find it almost impossible to not know what's going on in the world. Neighbors, co-workers, relatives calling long distance ... all blab: "Wasn't that awful about such and such ...". So I end up finding out ... whether I wanted to or not.

When I was a kid back in the 50's and 60's I can remember my folks would visit my grandparents who lived on a farm in Oklahoma. Although my grandparents had a tv set, the reception wasn't very good, so mostly it stayed turned off. What we did do, lots of, during those visits was ... talk and laugh, talk and laugh. For all we knew California could have fallen off into the ocean. We enjoyed each other's company, and those were happy times, carefree and more or less stress free.

I could write a five hundred page book on what's wrong with news in general, and television news in particular, but it might sound like I'm preaching. If others, like Jo, find the news satisfying, then that's fine. But I for one prefer the absence of --- "news".

Somebody, please, direct me to the nearest cave.

Ken
