Well, I don't know the details of the other message board, but one rule of thumb I try to keep in mind is that if you have a disagreement with someone try to focus your comments not on the person but rather what they said. I think it's a sensable guidline and unless it's a very private sort of forum I personally think much beyond that simple idea probably isn't necessary.
