Subject: Training Question!

I have a coming two-year-old colt that I board at a barrel racing stable. Everything is ok, except for one thing. When I bring my colt in, sometimes the other horses in his pasture and the pasture next door get excited (like they think they're going to get fed or something), and while I'm walking up to the gate, they all take off at a gallop, biting, kicking, etc. My colt gets riled up (he's still a baby and he gets caught up in what the 'big' horses are doing), and he ends up jerking the lead out of my hands and running off. I could hang on, but I live in Minnesota and it's been really slippery out, and I don't want to be caught up in the excitement. My colt is turned out with four mares, which wouldn't be too bad, but they in turn set off the herd in the next pasture, so it ends up being 20+ excited horses running and sqealing at each other. It's a barrel racing/lesson stable, like I said, so many of the horses are hot-blooded or rarely worked at all. I don't want my colt learning to jerk and run away whenever he feels like it, but I also don't want to be around all these high strung mares. What should I do?
