Date Posted: 12:40:46 07/01/02 Mon "Oh," Piper says thoughtfully as she paddles in the cool water. She's quiet for some time, and it can be inferred from her furrled little brow that she's concentrating on what Nervelli said, trying to make sense of it. Hunting isn't killing because they have to hunt, or they'll die because they'll starve. But doesn't their prey die, too? But I dun wanna die, Piper thinks, but I dun wanna haffa kill some'in else to live. But I gotta live. The last thought, she knows, wasn't entirely her conscious mind. It was the instinct deep inside of her. The instinct of all living creatures, to survive. "We shoul' be thankful, den," Piper finally says, "'cause dey gotta die so we can live. But one day we'll die, too..." Piper pauses, trailing off. She stares into the depths of the pool, watching the sunlight reflect into its crystal depths. So strange, and so beautiful is this world. But when she looks back up and sees Lunaia, though still deeply troubled and unsure of all of this, the playfulness and mischief of a pup re-enters her. She plunges herself under water, and swims best she can submerged—fighting the upwards tug—to the other pup, and boings up behind her, sending off huge waves. Grinning and laughing, she suddenly notices the new wolf among them: Vren. Her green eyes peer up at him from behind Lunaia, but he seems friendly enough! "'Iya!" she chirps.
