Date Posted: 14:30:10 06/28/02 Fri Some distance away from the pack, out of side and hearing distance, a large, white wolf paces about in a tight circle. His once-brilliant blue eyes now seem dull, having lost their sparkle. Most of his fur is pure white, with the exceptions of a black streak running down the center of his face, and a gray left rear leg. As he walks, the ground beneath him is being covered in an increasingly thick coat of frost crystals - matching those running down his back and sprouting from his paws. This frostbite would have most other living creatures screaming in pain, but the white wolf doesn't even seem to notice them. His senses aren't what they used to be, but he's sure the call came from someplace in this direction... |

Date Posted: 14:14:22 06/28/02 Fri A somewhat large black wolf sits alone outside the gathering of wolves. He is close enough to watch them, but far enough to be virtually unseen. All that accompany him are his thoughts. The pain he feels for his, once again, lost love. He debates with himself for a moment whether or not he should proceed. It was not, after all, here that he felt drawn to. That knowledge is like a stabbing knife in the pit of his stomach. And a dull, constant reminder. He pushes away the flood of memories that would come then. But then he remembers the promise he made to Small Wonder, last time he was with her, and stands back up, padding slowly into the clearing. When he steps out of the shadows, it can be seen that he is a fairly large male wolf. His coat, once ink-black, absorbing every scrap of light, has dulled somewhat. Perhaps because there is no longer such an intense blackness in his soul. His eyes, a bright, glowing green, are slit like a cats, and they hold a quiet sadness. Despite that, he carries himself proudly, free of some of the guilt that has so long haunted him. And, when he sees WindChaser, he smiles broadly, and genuinely. He greets her with a small nuzzle, before turning to the others and bowing his head for a moment. "Windy," he begins, though he doubts it before he ever asks, "is she yours?" His eyes are on Piper, that he asks the question. Though there seems to be something different about the pup, something he's seen before. |

Date Posted: 19:51:57 06/27/02 Thu Natil looks suddenly down to the young wolf who seems so angry with their presense. He smiles kindly to her, the smile of a grandfather or benefactor. "I am Natil, child. Perhaps you should put away your snarl and meet the others, as well?" His tone is not scolding, always kind, always loving. He gives Wolfe an encouraging, friendly look, then turns his eyes to Piper. "Child of the GreatOne's daughter," he speaks softly to the pup, "do not fear, and do not have sorrow. Your mother is with you. Her eyes watch over you, as Kmitza, your grandmoter, smiles upon you. As she does all of us. You are not alone." His attention returns to the others now, and he looks at each of them, individually, one at a time. He fears for them, all so young, so new to this, and in a way, so alone. But his heart knows, if they try, they can succeed here. They will live. "I am afraid I cannot stay with you any longer. All of you have come here for a purpose, because you remember, because the OldWays, the light and love of your souls, have drawn you here. Remember that. And remember the curse that shadows you, let it keep you vigilant." "To live together now, to become a pack, a Clan, you shall have to know one another, and learn to love one another. We are all a family, whether our blood is linked or not. You must be ever true to one another; stay loyal and close. Find a strong foundation in eachother. You are a pack." Here he pauses, smiling. "If others come, teach them as best you can what I have told you in my brief time. But ever if you need guidance, I will be with you, you need only call upon me." With that, he gives each wolf, in turn, a loving nuzzle. He smiles one last time, bows his head to them, and trots—as best he can—into the shadows of the forest. He will not pass over before them, but he will stay with them, guiding, helping, watching... |

Date Posted: 18:39:18 06/27/02 Thu He listens to Zodiac and all the other stuff, his attention beginning to wander. Chame can only be serious for so long, and he's beginning to reach his limit - besides, much of this is a little over his head. So much abstract things to try to understand... The OldWays aren't too difficult, but this Balance stuff is simply confusing. The arctic wolf looks at the pup just dropped off by the spirit-wolf-being-whatever. Hm. Maybe she likes to play. Probably none of these older wolves are the types who liked to have fun. They seem to be very caught up in this Balance and OldWays and other serious philosophical stuff... which was beginning to bore him juuust a bit. He tilts his head, ears pricked forward, watching Piper curiously. Then his wayward attention is distracted again by WindChaser as she asks about magic. Now, there's something interesting... but the Elder wolf said they weren't supposed to use it for trivialities. No fun at all, but something in him urged for caution with magic - well, it always did get him into more trouble than it got himm out of anyway. He shrugs. "I can do stuff with wind and ice and whatnot," he says. "Mostly winter-type magic. That's what I learned back home, anyway. I've no idea if I can use anything else." |

She doesn't know that she's ever seen Zodiac before, but something is slightly familiar... Thank you, or, you're welcome... She meets eyes with Natil - perhaps he knows more about the advent of the child than she - before lying down with the pup protectively between her paws and giving her a maternal lick between the ears. "Hello, Piper. I'm WindChaser. Or Windy, if you like, for now." She raises her eyes to Chame and Nervelli, watching all the others around her quietly. Everything is so new and different... and yet it all feels the same. "Do you know much about magic?" She inquires softly, forwarding the question to Piper as well. WindChaser |

Date Posted: 10:52:47 06/27/02 Thu As the black-caped pup is sat down, she watches with intense emerald green eyes as her mother speaks of balance and the DeathMakers and the struggle they must all fight inside of them. She is young to understand it all, but there seems to be a determination in her now to understand everything coming from Zodiac. Her young mind, however, absorbs every word like a sponge, so she may understand it later. There is a calm intensity to this pup, full of quiet energy and determined curiosity. When Zodiac turns and leaves, Piper jolts up and moves to follow her mother. She stops herself, though, as if she understands she cannot go with her mother now. Zodiac's last words "...and I will always watch over my child" comfort her, and she sits again, though she whimpers softly as Zodiac disappears. Piper's emerald green eyes look up at WindChaser, then to the old, dying Healer, Natil. Her mind is adjusting, so that she might think of these as 'family' now. She looks back to where her mother was and heaves a very small sigh, for a still small puppy. Seeming to accept that Zodiac is gone, she moves to WindChaser, curling up at her paws. She wants to say that she misses her momma, that she doesn't like being alone, that she doesn't understand why Zodiac had to leave... but instead she is silent. |

Date Posted: 21:07:46 06/26/02 Wed She watches with those silent golden eyes, kariq-ya, a guardian. Old, old, but still vigilant, always strong. Always watching, forever protecting. The trees sway very gently at her passing as her pawpads touch the forest floor and leave no prints, there is no weight to her. Slowly she seems to solidify, borne of the wind of the forest, the black-caped wolf with intense golden eyes. Only daughter of the GreatOne... Zodiac. In her mouth she gently carries a child... a child with a black cape like hers and alert green eyes. Slowly she pads over to WindChaser and Natil, placing the pup at their feet. "Her name is Piper... I know this is sudden for you, but my child is not kariq-ya... I can not care for her myself..." Her voice is strange, as if carried on the wind. "I wish for her to grow up with the OldWays..." She turns to WindChaser, her intense golden eyes filled with compassion, gentle strength, a fierce personality. "This world, this Earth, is still very young. Evil did not exist here, in the beginning. This world's balance, the balance at which it is the most healthy, the most nourishing, pure, is without evil. Perhaps this world's balance would have stayed so if Kmitza had not come here from OurWorld, her father had not followed her with his Darkness, but you must understand that OurWorld is very old. There is no balance there, there is no distinction between Darkness and Light, and though OurWorld began much like Earth, OurWorld is dying." "The Healers could not combat the DeathMakers, it was not in their nature, they were creatures of pure Light, the purity of the beginning Earth. The Killers can not outright slaughter the DeathMakers, that is evil in itself, Death is for the Earth to decide. The Killers should always be on the defensive, to protect the Earth from the DeathMakers, because in the DeathMakers very nature is the Earth's imbalance." "Do not be fooled, however, because in the Killer Clan's very nature is the capability of the same Darkness. Your true combat is within yourself. Always ask yourself, while you protect this Earth, if what you are doing is evil... for if you do not, you may become as Dark as the DeathMakers themself. It is your duty to seek balance within yourself, and prevent the spread, and eventually effect the demise of the DeathMaker Clan." She moves to Natil, gently licking his muzzle... "My mother has a place for you by her side..." As she pads away from them, slowly becoming transparent, she says "My kind are always watching... and I will always watch over my child." And then she is gone. |

"In my old home - where the clans were, also, once - the others seemed to speak of a certain balance, and I noticed it more either as I got older or as time passed. It seemed that the Dark and the Neutral spoke of it more than the LightWolves, and they would remind my mother that Light would not exist without the Dark, or that if the DeathMakers were eradicated, then..." She pauses, not really understanding what she is asking. "What... is there truth in this, even though in the beginning there was no Dark, and no Light... or, better, what should we strive for? Just balance? Harmony? Can we balance with a wolftype that ultimately strives for the destruction or domination of everything it can touch?" WindChaser |

He fights what is coming as much as he can. The younger wolves must learn. But it is easy to see now that Natil will not hold up much longer. He can sense some of WindChaser's regret and he smiles enigmatically to her, reassuring. "I have lived for longer than I can remember now," he tells her comfortingly, "and seen more than many wolves. Date Posted: 10:22:34 06/26/02 Wed Natil watches the younger wolves warmly. He chuckles softly at their awe and wonder, how they feel like they are already taking on the greatest of feats. "The OldWays," he answers Chame, "are the ancient beliefs the GreatOne set in us. They tell us to be mindful of Balance and Nature. We are part of Nature, and therefore part of the Balance of the universe. The OldWays teach us to use magick only when is necessary, and never against Nature, or to upset the Balance of the world." Natil's smile, now, is somewhat of a grin. "But you should not think that you are taking the world on your shoulders by following the Old Ways, young ones. I have watched some of you, and you are probably following the OldWays already, without knowing it. Struggling to make things Right, for Goodness and Light, both within yourself and the world. These are the OldWays, children. You must only remember that the OldWays were lost to almost all wolf, and that your kind were made from DeathMakers, who had discarded the OldWays. You must remember how easy it is for you to become a DeathMaker again." |

Simple and unadorned, just a single name devoid of titles or background. Odd... The young wolf listens closely to WindChaser despite his initial disrespect for her, and nods slowly, taking the torrent of information in like a sponge. "So what you're saying is that we're supposed to guard and live by these... OldWays?" Somehow it all seems vaguely familiar to him, as if he'd heard it once, long ago. The telling of the ancient tale strikes some hidden chord within him, and he feels that what WindChaser is saying is true, is something he needs to be a part of. Date Posted: 21:58:47 06/25/02 Tue Somewhat chastened, WindChaser berates herself that learning the OldWays includes incorporating them into her daily life - patience with pups. She sighs softly and nods at Natil... something in her hates to see him dying just as they had met him. "Its seems the path that has chosen you is a difficult one. If you are to become Killers, as it seems that Natil wishes, and remember the OldWays, then you are set with a noble and yet dangerous task..." She pauses and tries to smile. "Forgive me, I have heard and given more than my share of speeches. I will try to be as simple as I can. And as objective as I can. Kmitza, the GreatOne, came to Earth to escape the corruption of her own world. She created the first Wolves from her own blood, or something I think, and took a mate from among them. They lived like that, in peace, for a really long time. Then evil came, and many Healers were turned to DeathMakers. The DeathMakers killed most of the Healers, but then Kmitza got upset and turned some of the DeathMakers into Killers. "But she gave them a curse, or there was a curse, or somesuch. It said that if the Killers strayed from the OldWays, they'd be turned to DeathMakers... you see, the Killers were given much responsibility. They had to protect the Healers, the OldWays, and the rest of nature from the destruction of the DeathMakers, all the while using destruction to do it. So using that kind of corrosive magic kind of ate away at some of them, so they might have turned back into DeathMakers. And, finally, Kmitza created the Changers, to turn Dark DeathMakers into Light Killers. Again. Very confusing... "I'm sorry- that was very long... Killers were created to guard the OldWays and the defenseless, and themselves, against the DeathMakers. But if they strayed from the OldWays, they would become Dark. That's why we're so glad that Natil is telling us about the Old Ways." She stops for a breather. "Um, have I confused you completely?" WindChaser |

It had been so long, so long since he'd been in the form of a wolf... "I am glad you choose to stay, child," Natil tells Chame, and some of the age shows through in his voice. "But time has caught up with me quickly, and so age, and I am weary. If she will, I would ask your companion here," he nods to WindChaser, "to explain. Anything I am needed for, I will gladly answer. But I am afraid I have not gotten either of your names. I am Natil, of the original Healer Clan." He smiles to Nervelli as she comes up. He opens his mouth to make some sort of smart remark, but chokes it off as Natik calmly inserts himself between the two wolves. The cockiness and arrogance fades, though, as the elder speaks. Even this young pup knows when respect must be given, and he would not dream to disrespect this one. He listens quietly to Natik's words, bursting with questions but holding them in until he is certain the ancient is finished. The warm wind of summer whistles with a momentary arctic chill as it blows from the direction of the unseen intruder, then returning to its normal gentleness when a muttered curse erupts from the brush. The snapping of twigs and rustling of leaves grows louder, and a yelp follows the noise. "I'm coming already, okay??" The voice is young and male, exasperated by the call and impatient at being directed anywhere, but it holds a hint of curiosity as to what could be drawing him to this strange summerland. With a final crackle and snap, a cream-white wolf breaks through the last barrier of brush and into the clearing, glancing back with mild surprise at the wide trail he's made when there was apparently a more easier way just a few yards to the left of his trailblazing. His thick cream brush of a tail swishes once in dismissal and he turns his full attention to the two wolves in the glen. "Which of you called me?" His stance is the somewhat arrogant posture of adolescense, but dark-brown eyes in a black-white-brown mask hold more curiosity than aggression. His fur is thick and almost more yellow than white, a rich cream that seems made more for the chill of the north than for the semi-warmth of the summertime Deep Forest. His tail waves slightly, black-tipped ears pricked forward, head slightly cocked, seemingly ready for play or mischief more than a fight, although his arrogant tone might suggest otherwise. "Well?" he demands, looking from WindChaser to Natil and then focusing on the elder wolf as if his answer is already found. |

He does not seem disappointed with her or upset, though, only kindly. "Then I will use what time I have," he smiles, "to teach you all I can." The wolf shifts, lying down. "You'll have to forgive my old bones, age seems to be finally catching up with me. But the OldWays... I will tell you all I can. The GreatOne, Kmitza, first came to this world because of the corruption in hers. Because her people had forgotten the OldWays. So when she made us, the Wolf, she taught us the OldWays, and intended for us to live by them. But when evil entered the world, many wolves turned from the OldWays, their hearts became Dark. The DeathMakers. The GreatOne Turned a few of the DeathMakers, made them Light again and brought them back to the OldWays. These are the Killers. But, this is important, the Killers are cursed. This curse, I fear, has been forgotten." Natil takes on a serious tone, implying that it is imperative for WindChaser to remember this, to pass it on, "If a Killer strays from the path of Light, from the OldWays, he will become a DeathMaker once more, for it was from the DeathMakers he came. His heart will once again become dark." He smiles, though, and his heart seems to become lighter. "But you, your kind, the Changers, were freed of that curse. You cannot be Turned, you cannot be Dark. Ah, now, the OldWays..." Natil pauses a moment, in thought. "The Great One taught us that we are all part of nature. That we must respect nature, we are One with it. That we must not abuse magick, for it is a gift, and we must never use magick against nature. We must use magick only when it is needed, and always strive towards what is good and right." ((Zozo, sorry if any of that's wrong. Feel free to correct. ^^;)) |

It moves lightly over to a crystal pool in the clearing, fed by a babbling brooke. Its old eyes gaze sadly into the waters. "So much pain has befallen the world, violence. Darkness and evil have fallen into the hearts of so many, or shrouded their hearts and brought them into a misty pain. How my kind have suffered..." The unicorn trails off of its own thoughts, gazing deeper into the water. It is as if the pure creature can see something there, distant visions, perhaps. "They have forgotten, even the remnants of the Killers. They have forgotten the Old Ways, it might even seem they have forgotten the Great One. And look what has befallen them, the old Clans, their old territory, fallen apart." He just stands there for a time, silent in his own thoughts. His heart is crying for his brethren, who have suffered so. The pain, the anger, even the hate that they have felt. And how far they have strayed... "They have, I fear, even forgotten the Curse which haunts them, which lives in their blood. Perhaps it is the end, then. Perhaps their time has come." The unicorn looks away from the pool now, a single tear, pure as crystal, falling from his eye. "And so little of my kind are left. Of the original Healers. Are we all who remember?" The unicorn turns his old head to the sky now, calling out, "Great One? Are there others? Do any still remember, the Old Ways, the Legends?" To the casual observer, the only answer is the silent sweepig of the wind. But to the unicorn, more has been said. Hope has been delivered. "Then I shall use the magick I still have to undo what the Great One has done, bring myself back to what I was." The unicorn closes his eyes, concentrating. It takes time, and much effort, but a soft glow slowly surrounds the beast, until it encompasses him. When it fades, left behind, is an old wolf. By his size and stature, it can be seen that once he was a great, powerful beast, though sworn to peace. Sworn to the Old Ways. His grey coat, hooded in brown, is dull now, aged. The wolf's eyes, however, are still a bright gold. "And I shall call them," the wolf, Natil, surviving member of the original Healer Clan, says with determination. "Let all who may remember, all who may still serve the Old Ways, hear me and find their home again." With that, the old wolf throws back his head and lets out a long, deep howl. The sound seems to reverberate through the land, through the trees, the sky, the very earth. To the ears of any who might remember... Who might come again... |
