Subject: Last Night (same as on other board...but nobody seems to be posting here...so I'll break the ice)

I have been thinking about this since it happened to me last night. I dropped my girlfriend off about 10pm. I swung by the market to pick up a couple of things. Drving home on the freeway, at about 70 mph, I suddenly saw a car broken down, diagonaly blocking the right lane (which I was in) and the small shoulder (so I couldn't go there). I slammed on my breaks as hard as I could, and missed hitting the car by a couple of feet. Literally.

So, I got to thinking (after I got going again), why didn't I hit the car? I had almost every reason to get into an accident: it was night, high speed, unexpected incident, the broken down car was neither marked with flares or reflecters (heck it wasn't even flashing its hazard lights). No alcohol/drugs involved with my end, however.

Was it God's hand or was it my quick reflexes and my truck's anti-lock brakes?

I know this scenario has happened to everyone. You're running late (or your spouse, parents, whoever), and are angry about it...you're gonna be late or whatever. Driving along, you see a HUGE accident, and you think, "If I had been on time, that might have been me."

Maybe you even think to yourself that it was God's doing that made you late. But doesn't that mean that God allowed the others involved to be in the accident? Plus, who knows? Could be your reflexes are quick enough that *you* would have avoided the accident. Or perhaps you would have been ahead of the accident. Maybe had you been on time there wouldn't have been an accident...you would have been the one who beeped at the guy before he drifted into the other car.

Not gotcha questions, just ones designed to provoke thought and discussion.
