I love any and all QL fan fic--pre-MI and post-MI..... except those few stories that completely write Al out of the picture because they think he and Sam wouldn't still meet after Sam fixed Al's marriage.
Most of the fan fic stories I have read (and I've read A LOT) occur before "Mirror Image"... Most of the post-"Memphis Melody" fanfics do acknowledge what happened in "Mirror Image". There *are* a few that have been written as a replacement for MI---which I can't argue about, since I hate that episode (not as much as I used to... since I've decided it was all a dream).
The Quantum Leap Virtual Seasons acknowleged all that happened in MI... the only difference is they ignored the "Dr. Sam Becket never returned home" and have been keeping him Leaping for 3 seasons--6, 7, 8... picking up where MI left off. I read the VS "episodes" every week, and I've even written one myself! (and I'm currently working on another)
As for fan fic having Sam Leap home, it depends on the situation the author puts him in. If it's a short little bit that could be tacked on to MI in place of the black screens, I don't mind.
I also like when people put Sam immediately into some wonderful, outrageous adventure... with Al at his side all the way.
Oh, and about the fic getting published. "Mirror's Edge" was officially the last novel in the QL novel series, which leads into "Mirror Image". You would never be able to get a novel published if it has Sam coming home, because in the guidelines that one of the QL authors posted once, it said that stories dealing with the aftermath of MI should be left to Bellisario...
However, maybe we could get some of the QL novel authors--Ashley McConnell, L. Elizabeth Storm, and any others--to help us campaign for more new QL novels..... I would love to try writing a full-length novel and get it published.
A suggestion: If you want your story published, try contacting any of the QL fic 'zines that are still being published (if any are). They would probably love to have more stories contributed.
BTW, I visited your page, Judy... I just haven't had a chance to read the stories.
