Freda,

I think the element of rudeness comes not from the fact
that someone wants to advertise their own board here but
from the implied or explicit remarks that their board
is a more "free" forum than the one being run here.

This board has a fairly well defined theme and, through
moderation, is kept clean and on-topic. I have modeled
the administration of this board after those of other
very successful boards that I frequent which includes
a couple of Star Trek forums and the Saab Network
discussion groups. The administrators of those forums
are firm about their committments to keeping their
boards on-topic and I respect that.

Board users here are "free" to post anything they like
as long as it is ON-TOPIC and they PLAY NICE. People that
find it frustrating to live under these very simple and
generous guidelines are asked to stay in lurking-mode here
and/or to take their posts elsewhere.

Yes, Freda, many of you simply don't get it. Although
this topic appears to come up periodically over the last
few years, I hope this posting helps to clarify my
position on this issue. I believe the way I run this board
is the way most of the users like to see it run. I
certainly get a lot of positive e-mail whenever I am
challenged on the board rules.

Brian
