No, Al wasn't lying. The idea was that Jackie really DID die originally, and we (the audience) just don't remember that because Sam changed history. Just like when Sam leaps into, say, Samantha Stormer and prevents Samantha's best friend from committing suicide ("What Price Gloria?"). Once Sam changes history, no one remembers that Samantha's friend committed suicide, because that piece of history has been changed. Thus, if Jackie really died but Sam changed history so that she didn't, none of us would be the wiser about it.

Did that clear things up, I hope?
