I second everything Helene said. Thanks for a great report, Helene.

Sitting there in the studio was like the agony and the ecstasy. It was so great to have Scott once again in the same room and he looked so good! But I felt SO uncomfortable for him. It sounded like he had squeezed in his visit to Ground Zero either in-between the Early Show and The View (less than two hours leeway here in New York to go 60 blocks down there and bak), or the day before, and was still all choked up about it. It was actually the first time I've seen him so speechless and unable to coherently express his thoughts. His wonderful acting abilities were actually unable to control the real emotion that was trying to pour out of him. Then Barbara Walters jumped in with a few comments to relieve his angst somewhat and change the subject to WGL.

But that's not why I was uncomfortable, because here in New York we're getting used to people not being able to find their words and being so emotional about what happened to the city and its people. What I found so uncomfortable was the subject matter the hostesses promptly brought up after that. Granted, step-children and blended families were the topic, but I thought it was pretty insensitive for them to force his hand on national tv and make him admit to not being "officially" married to Chelsea, when he has always....well, not avoided the subject, but hasn't brought it up himself and hasn't corrected any show host whether they call him married or not. But to blatantly come out and state it was rude and self-serving and shouldn't have been part of a 5-minute interview. They should have stuck to the subject of blended families, which was the topic anyway. I don't care if they themselves confessed to long-term unmarried relationships; I was just upset they made him do it, too!

If (no, when!) Enterprise is still a huge hit after being on the air for a year or so, I hope Barbara Walters gives Scott a decent interview, one-on-one, where Scott's intelligence and wit will come shining through without having to overcome the chatter of, not one, but four hostesses, and be followed by foot odor problems. Of course, he handled himself with his usual charm and spoke so intelligently, but the interruptions were frustrating!

Maybe I'm overreacting to all this. I'll have to go watch the tape and see if I feel the same as I did while sitting their live. I don't mean to sound so sour. Actually, it was great fun and I did so enjoy being there and I was so impressed with how Scott handled himself once again. I guess I just wanted more..... and more..... and....

Barbara
