She completely overdid it and it took away from a real character. She was a cartoon.

I couldn't. Bateman's discontent slowly emerges and it's driven by that little rat. When we first meet them, they seem like a wierd, post-modern yuppie couple. But as the little bug seduces him he yearns more and more for his past, for his dreams while Garner hunkers down in order to secure her safe path through life.

Bateman's character is caught between two liars (women). Garner is a phoney whose not fake.
