Date Posted: 06:43:15 02/15/08 Fri Author Host/IP: c-68-43-54-216.hsd1.mi.comcast.net/68.43.54.216 Man, I haven't seen this in years. I liked it when I was a kid but I didn't get a lot of it. WELL I DO NOW!!! First of all, what the hell happened to Reiner. How can someone once so brilliant become so awful? Was it Guest behind all the genius? I don't know. Why didn't Cary Elwes become a bigger star? Why doesn't Mandy Patinkin get more work? Wasn't he on a poor mans version of E.R.? That's the last I heard of him. FUCK he was great in this. Of course I identified with him as a kid. Always second best. BUT I KNEW THE VALUE OF REVENGE!!! And so does he. "Stop saying that!" My name is (something Spanish) you murdered my father. Prepare to die." Anyone who can't connect that to Rocky Balboa summoning his passion during battle is...someone who doesn't value those movies as much as I do. They are a part of me. How how is Robin Wright in this? I still think she's pretty but she is so young and supple here. I wish Wallace Shawn could have been brought back into the fold like Andre and Patinkin were because I love Wallace Shawn. And so should everyone. What's amazing about "The Princess Bride" is why it still works. Yeah, now the jokes are funnier, the tone more recognizable, Billy Crystal's jew-baiting and all the Machiavellian overtones. But what makes it work TODAY just like 20 years ago is the grandpa reading this story to his grandson. It's times like these I'm barely able to contain my infinite powers and sagacity. But I do. Because, like Bruce Wayne, I have a choice and I realize it's not who I am that defines but what I do. And my butler never gave up on me. Even when I killed him because of his cold blue eye.
