I only saw his show a few times in the late nineties. But I always liked how he talked. I got in a fistfight with a friend of mine over it. Swear to God.

He was all big into Tony Robbins sales shit and mocked the way our priest was talking one day. Our priest was very smart and he stammered and paused as he gave the homily.

My asshole friend was like "He needs to take a Carnegie class on public speaking" and it just escalated from there. I won, of course. He was a pussy but he ALWAYS ran his mouth.

I felt guilty but then I realized I was doing him a favor. I was giving him a choice. Check out this anecdote. One night in the Marines we were all sitting around drinking at the smoke pit. We were shut down and no one could leave the base. This one loud mouth kid had put a chip on his shoulder about a month earlier and he was rubbing my skinhead friend the wrong way. We were all friends but this kid was getting really cocky.

So the little bitch I was dating back then started a fight and the skinhead just pummelled the kid. The kid's attitude changed immediately. I was talking to him after and I felt really bad for him.

But he now had a choice. He could either quit running his mouth OR get tougher. He chose to get tougher. He's now working for a paper. He was a writer and I never knew it and even though we didn't hang too much in the Corps we're tight as fuck now. I barely talk to the skinhead who wasn't really even all that racist.

The point is fighting is positive and you have to do it. And I fought for Buckley because of the way he talked.
