When I was a kid, my dad wouldn't let me a few things. MTV to be certain and a number of flicks that ran on cable. "Meatballs" was one of these.

On one lonely night in college when I was cramming for three tests I needed a break so I made a trek up to the local Blockbuster and aimlessly perused. I was looking for nothing, simply a chance to get out of my head for a few hours. I found "Meatballs" and jumped at it.

I laughed my ass off. I've always loved Murray and thought he was brilliant in this. The scene of him wrestling the camp counselor bordered on genius--not to mention date rape. But these were the early nineties and a young man dealing with young women in the aftermath of Tailhook and left-wing-lesbian feminism had to appreciate Murray's bravado...and the young woman's complete submission to it.

In addition to Murray's persona, "Meatballs" relies on the time-tested edict of eliciting sympathy from the loner kid whose arc takes him to confidence. In addition to that, the subtle lesbian action is quite hot. I must have rewound the part in the girls cabin 15 times carefully freezing it to where the girl in black panties and black leg warmers scratches the girl in red panties and red leg warmers across the ass.

I only mention this because of the effect this movie had. My grades slipped horribly after watching this and I found myself at the Adult Book Store at least once a month...searching for more dirt.

Was that the purpose of this movie?

I believe so.

But I didn't realize it until they went to the other camp for the basketball game. These bums are contrasted against a group of well-dressed kids cooridinated in their clothing and chants. They run the Meatballs off the court with a decisive victory that doesn't bother them for a second. In fact, they give the other team a breakdown (pull their shorts down) and run away like cowards.

Look who cares about these guys, right? But why bait the other camp. Why do movies like "Meatballs" always have to champion those who have no pride, no discipline, no heart. Just scumbags who start fucking in their teens.

"Stay away from these people!" I was always told. But they'll suck you in. It can only lead to trouble. Unfortunately, they have hot girls in their midst and you can physically take them...if they subscribed to the same rules. These guys are wimps and can't fight for shit...but the girls don't care. They 'know' what group they are from and they will remain loyal. It's best to shut the door on them. These are the animals that have followed civilization from its outskirst, like a rat, feeding off our scraps.

Every now and then, a young girl will run off with them. FUCK HER!!! I hope they rape her...and rape her good.
