He's not a politician (the bigger fish). But if you're just talking punditry, what about Limbaugh? He's got a bigger audience than Matthews (though probably not the brightest).

But than Matthews is easier to stick up for than Limbaugh. To wit, from Salon:

"Sometimes, it's hard to keep up.

Here's Republican Rep. Jack Kingston telling MSNBC why Democrats are wrong to criticize Rush Limbaugh for his "phony soldiers" remark:

"Frankly, I think there's a First Amendment issue that goes well beyond Rush Limbaugh, and that's the right of private citizens to have discourse without the U.S. Congress or members of the Senate leadership denouncing them."

Kingston voted last week in favor of a resolution condemning MoveOn for its Petraeus/"Betray Us" ad."

Which dovetails quite nicely with Kylo's argument about the limitations (and bending thereof) of First Amendment. protections. Wouldn't you find Rush denigrating combat vets at least as offensive as a black person would find Imus's comments? Rush still has his job (and will retain his millions of sycophants). How is what Rush said any different from the MoveOn ad? The audience is the difference. Hypocrites though they maybe, I gotta give them credit for not letting cognitive dissonance get in the way of an argument.

I find it UN-likely you'll agree.
