Hey John,

I can give you some basic differences that I have seen in my training and living with both breeds.

Corsos tend to have more nervous energy and the majority seem to be quicker to snap at people when they aren't getting their way or are confused and under pressure. They tend to have more prey drive than the average Boerboel.

Interesting little tidbit here, while no dog really cares for nail trimming at first, Corsos seem to have an aversion to it like you wouldn't believe! It's like a breed characteristic as I have never known a Corso that didn't freak over it without a TON of work.

Corsos do tend to run lighter boned with less muscle mass, however if they throwback hard to the Neo genetics, they can be pretty substantial dogs. A few of the females I've known were so petite they were barely more substantial than a Boxer with a tad heavier bone. I also know a girl who is so heavy in bone and muscle, she's a good 120 pounds of pure power, she is currently one leg short of her CDX, too and her Obedience is really pretty :)

Regarding athleticism, that's totally dependent on the individual dog.

ACL tears happen in both breeds but with Corsos I see it far more often. Epilepsy is a huge concern, as well. HD is a concern in both breeds.

Some Corsos just love children, but I've found Boerboels to be way more gentle, tolerant and just plain charmed by them.

Barrier aggression, in crates and runs and the like, is like a hobby to a lot of Corsos.

Power, intensity and defense will be stronger in a good Boerboel when the poo hits the paddles :) Dont get me wrong, a good Corso can bring it but I feel a good Boerboel would stay in the fight a lot longer and take more abuse from an assailant.

Boerboels tend to be more of a thinking breed. They seem to assess the situation in a more intelligent way and then react instead of the shoot first, ask questions later mentality.

Corsos impress me as a herder-esque molosser, they just act more like a GSD or Mali than a molosser, where as the Boerboel is just more mastiffy or houndy in it's characteristics.

I live in Texas, so heat tolerance is something I watch for. Even with the larger body mass, my dogs (Boerboels) seem to handle the heat and stay mentally sharp and willing to work in the heat for longer than the Corsos.

Dog dominance and dog aggression are pretty much the same for both breeds.

Overall ease to live with... I much prefer the Boerboel. They are more easy going until there is a real reason to get excited. If you have other animals (cats, chickens, etc) Boerboels would probably be an easier and more trustworthy match.

There are exceptions to all of these observations, it's really all about what you want from an individual dog and finding the breeder who is producing it.
