Basically, If you do much ACTUAL PP training, you will discover a PP dog needs a degree of forwardness in order to prevent the dog from thinking about going into reverse or slipping out the back door.

The best PP dogs are "TRIGGERED" by defense, but once they get into "go mode" they should be forward in the mind and committed to the task. There are essentially two ways to get that...either fight drive or prey drive. I prefer fight drive for that, but good defense combined with good prey drive will do as long as the dog also has good nerves and confidence. Temperament and defense alone isn't enough. I have seen MANY good defense dogs that had good confidence and temperament that would yield on thier bite after an initial strike. Keeping a bad guy busy and once family safe may require more than just one hard bite.
