It's weird where it turns up. I live in the suburbs but surrounded by swamps and marshes. We get rabid raccoons and red foxes all the time. My neighbor's dog killed one two weeks ago in their front yard that was positive for rabies.
So far this year, there have been 8 verified cases of rabies in our county. Considering the whole county is 193 square miles, that's a lot of rabid animals.
