I guess I'll put my 2cents worth into this... My boerboel had horrible allergies. And since I already had a dog that was allergic to everything under the sun, I wasn't about to pussyfoot around for trial and error with food. I went ahead and paid the $350 for the allergy testing. It will save you time, grief and your sanity just to find out what is actually wrong. Low and behold, my Boerboel was allergic to:

Chicken, turkey, eggs, corn, rice, brewers yeast, carrots, green peas, a plethera of weeds, trees and fungi. He was also allergic to cotton, not the tree, the cotton we wear. So that was hard to find a bed suitable for him. I saved the best for last... he was allergic to human hair. Yes, my dog was allergy to me not the other way around.

So, my suggestion is to spend the money and get the allergy testing done so you know what you are dealing with. Hope that helps.
