Hi Tony,

Nice to see one of the 'old guard' still here!

"if you are prepared to .... do much testing and culling , and you start with the right representatives, bam...30 or 40 yrs , you have what you want !!!!"

About where we are with the Boerboel in my estimation LOL except that we're never going to get there. Too many breeders throwing out litter after litter from dogs, who never do more than hang around in kennels and go for a run around the exercise area if they're lucky.

On a more cheerful note, I've got a 14 month old pup, who I'm really enjoying. Nothing much to look at but way more zip than the average Boerboel. Ran down a roe deer solo at 8 months, 3 weeks. Coming on nicely pushing stock, loves to go head to head with the rams and cows and hasn't backed off anything yet. He's been running next to the quad bike since he was 6 months and has clear elbows and really good hips (BVA 5).

Best of all, when I say "jump", he doesn't ask "how high", he says "jump? Watch me fly!" Very biddable and loves to work. He's doing well in competitive obedience and I may try schutzhund with him if I can find the time to make the 3 hour drive each way to train.

Right now, it feels a bit like winning the lottery, he's such a blast to own but there's a long way to go yet before
I can say whether he's really any good.

Are you sticking purely to your cow dogs these days or do you have a Boerboel about the place?

kind regards,
Lucinda
