Great post.. One thing I noticed in those pics I posted is that the horse in the show shot is just chillin' out...relaxing and his hocks were nearly touching...legs straight but hocks touching... When the draft horses with those weird hocks back there pull though...those legs are basically straight...in that pulling picture you see how that conformation that looks odd in the show pic. WORKS when the job is being done.

Interesting discussion. Had the same discussion on my horse board about hock conformation and whatnot and performance horses do NOT want to look like the giant drafts...different rear leg conformation for different Jobs... Drafts aren't bred to change direction quickly or even move that quickly they were bred to pull freight...pulling ONLY where we see the horses you're more familiar with bred to be more agile and quick on their feet don't have the same rear leg conformation at all. BOTH types' motors are the rear end but...so different. VERY interesting. I was shocked to learn how differently Draft horses really are built...as were most of the folks on the horse message board who were discussing the topic.
