Having a trained guard dog is a liability but so is having an untrained dog who's natural instinct should be to protect. On one hand you have a supposed guardian who is expected to know how to protect the owner/family. Will a Boerboel, Bulldog, GSD, etc protect against a real threat without being prepared/trained for it. Some will some won't. Who is willing to take that chance? On the other hand you have a dog that is trained to protect and bite. What if someone welcome walks in your house and the dog attacks. You are then responsible. I would not go and buy a gun that I couldn't aim or that fired by itself. The same thing with a weapon like a guard dog I choose to train my dogs to protect myself and my family. An untrained guardian is a risk I am not willing to take.
