You are correct when you say "It isn't necessarily the best that ends up dominating at an early age..." I agree.

More than anything this develops the pups physically. The pups practice biting hard shaking pulling jerking in a way that they would not other wise. Nothing is going to motivate the young pup like hunger and the need to feed. So lets make it an exercise rather than slicing it into bit sized pieces.

You said "increased dog aggression and food based aggression."

I disagree. I think what you see is a display of dominance rather than aggression. The puppies never go into aggressive brawl mode. Out of the 86 successful puppies I have produced thus far none all weaned on big whole large chunks of meat dog aggression or food aggression has yet to be an issue.
