Problem Scenario #1
Susan does not want to carry cassettes with her walkman

Susan works out in the gym everyday as a part of her arthritis treatment. She is turning 60 this year. She was a high school teacher previous to her retirement. She also takes a walk every morning. Susan likes to listen to some calming music and motivational lectures very early in the morning. She currently has some tapes that she carries with her when she goes out for a walk and workout. She takes with her a small cassette-player-walkman to listen to music, which also has a radio player, and a couple of cassettes in a pouch that she fastens to her belt-line when she walks and works out. She finds it a hassle to carry the cassettes, flip them each time a side has ended and would like to listen to her choice of songs without having to tow so many things with her. Besides, her walk lasts for about an hour and a half every day and she has to therefore replace the batteries in the walk-man every three days.
Recently her grandson, Matthew, received a MP3 player for a birthday present and it plays CDs, radio and is lightweight. Matthew showed her that there is a way to transfer material from cassettes to CDs and that one can download some music from the Internet. Susan wonders now if she can transfer a mix of these lectures and music together but she does not know how to do this by herself. She wonders if she should have one and what the cost may be. She thinks that it is better to have this player than to carry a walk-man but she does not want to spend too much time and money to adapt to this new player. She decides she will ask her grandson to show her exactly how to use the new player and how it works.

Problem Scenario #2
Susan learns how to use an MP3 player.

Susan speaks to her grandson Matthew about her wish to see a demonstration of how the MP3 player works. Matthew shows Susan the various controls. Then they move their attention to the subject of downloading music to the player. Susan is not very computer savvy and even though she has used the Internet before, it has only been to procure specific information about directions and movie times. She has a friend who orders groceries online and has heard some complaints from this friend about how complicated it is to place an order online. Besides Susan does not trust that contents of some of these websites are legally allowed to be available on the Internet. As Matthew navigates his way about a web site to show how to download the exact type of music and the specific album, Susan finds himself getting lost as Matthew clicks one after the other link. Besides, the print on the website makes Susan squint her eyes to read any information. She voices to Matthew that she is getting lost in this process of searching for the music of her choice, and Matthew suggests that there is also online help available to learn the process. But Susan finds it difficult to read so much information constantly as her eyes begin to hurt. She asks Matthew if this is the procedure on all websites where one can download music from, and learns that the process varies from one site to another. Susan is filled with doubt when she learns this, about her willingness to figure out a different method each time she wants to download music from different web sites.
