Subject: Data Summary:

We can summarize the following information as a result of most of our interviews:

1) Most of our clients are in the age group 55 - 70 years. Almost all interviewees are still working and therefore lead active lives. They like to listen to music while they are driving ot exercising and mostly listen to music everyday for about 1 - 2 hours at a stretch.

2) All of the interviewees own some form of a music system that is not portable and most of them have a cassette-player walkman. Most of them preferred to have devices that played the radio and CDs. They showed strong preference for devices that are lightweight.

3) All of the interviews revealed that people in this age group like to read print that is prominent and large and are dissatisfied in that respect with their current music devices.

4)They would like to carry the device around and they would certainly like to hear a mix of songs. Some of them have some experience with computers but use the Internet for very specific purposes and do not surf the Internet otherwise.

5) Most people were not comfortable with the idea of downloading software or music from the Internet for one or another reason - inconvenience, security and legal concerns, hard to use interfaces/websites, quality concerns, etc.

6) All among the interviewees preferred that they were instructed to use any device by somebody else and showed absolutely no preference for reading the manual or online support.

7) Some of them couldnt recognize the standard conventions used for FF, Stop, rewind etc. Some indicated that they tend to remember the functionality associated with each button on their device by remembering the position of the button.. so for example the first button from the left is always the pause button, the second corresponds to Stop , etc.

8) Most people were willing to spend in the range of $50-$100 on a new portable music device that would address all their needs, and be easy to learn and use.

9)Most of these interviewees dont care much about the appearance of their device, but wished that buttons were bigger and print on them was more prominent. They also showed a preference for LCD display on their systems.
