Subject: Mysterious Leak

I am fixing a roof, and where the two peaks of the roof meet, the valley, I am having leaks. I have replaced everything on the roof. There is no pitch for the water to run off of where the 2 rooves meet. And the rooves have been rubberized, and also have tin on them. I also put flashing and ice shield - but there is still a leak somewhere. Not only that but the water also just forms a puddle on the new roof. I have no idea where the leak is coming from... it could be from the side but it isn't from where I replaced everyhthing. Where could it be?

"There is no pitch for the water to run off of where the 2 roofs meet." I'm picturing something that saddles should have been built in for drainage.

"it could be from the side but it isn't from where I replaced everything." It could be if you did something wrong.

If your roof structure is as I picture it. (click) I would have framed in saddles in there and installed torchdown. There can't be seems in places like this. What are you trying to do with metal in something like this? It would have to be seemless and get up under the roof over 16" on both sides. Your metal would have to be 40" wide? Same as with my torchdown. You say it has no drainage. If something I work on has no drainage I fix it so it does. I have fixed these after some other roofing company has done these many times. I bet they thought they did it right also. Remember that if you leave standing water anywhere in your roof system your asking for trouble.

Sorry for your troubles,
Tim Soth / A Roofer
