Subject: Cost of replacing shingle roof with metal roof??

I am buying a house that is in desperate need of a new roof. The current roof is made of composite shingle and is about 27 years old. There are leaks in several rooms in the house. The house is about 1,400 sq. ft. I'd like to replace it with a metal roof. Assuming that about 50% of the plywood will need replacing due to water damage, can anyone provide an estimate or some rule of thumb I could apply to determine how much it would cost to a) have the roof replaced professionally; or b) buy the materials and do the work myself? This house is in the central Texas area. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

I bought a house in Sept.of 05, it has since started to leak through in a couple of places.I'm thinking about having a metal roof put on. I now have shingles. The house is about 1485 sq. ft. with a 18 foot screened in back porch. How much do you think it would cost??
