Subject: Asphalt over wood shingles???

If I put new Asphalt shingles over old wood shingles do I need to put the felt paper on too???

I've seen people put roofs over wood shingles but you will never see us do it. I figure they are so desperate for work they will do anything a customer wants. I wonder what their workmanship warranties are like, if they have them. I need to give 10yr workmanship warranties that I have confidence in on my jobs and old wood shingles don't hold the fasteners strong enough to keep the material from blowing off a roof. Longer nails don't help because wood shingles are installed over skip sheeting and many courses are going to be nailed into nothing but your old rotten wood shingles.

Do you need to install felt paper over it? This is not a requirement but it couldn't hurt. Most "go over" installations don't have felt paper installed unless it is requested by the home owner.
