Subject: venting a roof

I live in Indiana and was wondering what type of roof ventilation system is better. The "vent" boxes on a roof or the ridge-vent system. I am trying to decide what type ot put on my new roof. My roof has an attic, but is not livable space. My home is one story.

I would appreciate any suggestions. Right now, I have 2 roofers with entirely different opinions, and need some objective thoughts.

They both work. I charge $5 per foot to install ridge vent so it is usually cheaper to install the box vents you are referring to. I prefer ridge vent because of its looks. The best ventilation would be the installation of a power vent but then a licensed electrician is needed to install power to it. If your house is a full hip house you will probably need box vents because you will not have enough ridge on your house to properly vent it. Ridge vent cannot be used on hips.
