Basically, I understand that if the cores were deep inside of a mountain, surrounded by steel and concrete etc. it would be safe for humans for supposedly thousands of years. Also, there would be little chance of an animal walking by and receiving a leathal dose of radiation.

HOWEVER, I am wondering if it has any effect on the mountain itself, or any other natural things. Like how bad is radiation for trees, or grass and stuff? I guess that's my main question....if it's harmful or not to the environment that way.

And how on EARTH are they safely going to transport it? Say, for example, they want to bring stuff from Millstone, in Connecticut...all the way to the other side of the country. In a truck? I hope not. In a plane? I hope not.
It seems impossible to safely transport it, let alone store it. I'm sure one day the mountain will be gone, or someone will stumble upon the storage site. You can't keep it closed off forever.

I'm just so confused. (as always)
