Subject: Plain and simple, everyone knows Shea is a bitch. It wasnt just one thing she did. She's obviously is just in this for herself and people aren't making this up. She said several nasty things throughout the week. I'm happy the judges were able to see through it.

[> [> Subject: Thanks Shea. If you can dish it out and put down every girl that threatens you, you can take it. You people continue to surprise me with how quick you are to defend the nasty girls of the group instead of the girls that are nice people and actually deserve the title. We are all tired of your seniority bullshit. Get a grip.

Pretty girl glad she is comfy in her own skin but she is way to big.

Her determination clearly paid off with two prelim awards, an overall interview award, and a 3rd RU placement. I did not see or hear her say anything mean or nasty. The entire class was kind and supportive of each other throughout the week.

[> Subject: If Shea had won, and people were on here complaining, THEN I would join the chorus of "You Maryland people are so negative," because Shea DESERVED TO WIN. I'm not a big fan of Morgan Lash's talent, and I personally disagreed with her answer, but she also DESERVED TO WIN. Rachel would have been an amazing winner too. I cannot believe that Emma and Kathleen were in the top 3. It is such a mess.

I am posting for the first time. Your statement regarding Emma lumping her with the winner is completely unfair. I was there, she was a come from behind girl who is the total package and would have also been just as deserving as many of the girls who didn't make top 5, or even 11. There were amazing talents, platforms, and personal stories of courage and conviction. It is a contest after all. Judging was fair all week, the preliminary groups are random and one can be more difficult than the other. Judges can notice a girl later in the competition for good or for bad. Back stage shenanigans not included. Emma is hispanic by the way, to any of the "diversity complainers," She is also an educated, beautiful, and talented woman who entered this contest on her last year of eligibility because she thought it was meaningful and to advance her actual platform. If you don't understand why she was in the top 5, please watch her talent and evening gown video, and I would be happy to provide her resume. Oh yes, she won the Academic award, the quality of life award, and the Miracle maker award...I'm pretty sure other than "style" that pretty much covers the four points of the miss america crown even though those awards are not scored. Oh by the way, I am her mother and I am clearly biased. But don't attack when you don't know. Only the judges had all of the information. She had two weeks home from deployment to practice her swimsuit walk. She worked out in a cramped and hot space on a Coast Guard ship and is physically fit and stronger than you know. It is a "beauty pageant," but it is billed as a scholarship program. I refuse to bash anyone here. Please be respectful and know what you are talking about before you say things like "I cannot believe Emma was in top 3."??? were you there all week? Don't minimize what any of those girls achieved just by being there and leaving their hearts on that stage. Please.

[> [> [> Subject: As a 24-year old competing for a very public position, Emma should have the backbone to withstand comments like "She didn't deserve her placement" without necessitating a reply from her mother. I'd like to think the best of Emma, but you are not doing her any favors with anyone who reads this board by sticking up for her, Patty. I'm glad she's aging out so neither of you will have to engage in this petty discussion board anymore.

Dear Anonymous, you are right, except she does not have the time to see this. She was honored and humbled by the awards and her placement. Why is it inappropriate for me to stick up for my daughter? Someone sent it to me, I am sorry that I am "one of those moms who sticks up for her 'kids' no matter their age." I did not think my comment was inappropriate in light of some of the pettiness on here. I simply stated that discussions like this are seldom constructive, and I would not have even seen this if it had not been sent to me. Yes, I usually ignore and move on. Just did not think the original poster should have called anyone's merits into question regardless of the outcome. Unless they were on the judge's panel, nobody really knows how the scoring went. I have been a pageant judge, it is not easy. People are free to disagree with the results, but why do it on a public forum? Keep in mind that sometimes these hurtful and negative comments are seen by the families of the contestants and again, they are not constructive. I agree, she is an adult and she does have a thick skin. She wouldn't care if she saw the comment, but her grandparents and I certainly do. I'm not sorry for speaking up. I don't know who you are, but you know who I am. I don't want to fight with anyone, I simply tried to state my point of view respectfully. Thank you for your input on my parenting, and I say that with no sarcasm at all. We all live and learn and I am still learning. :-)

[> [> [> [> [> Subject: Patty, I'm the original poster - thanks for posting, I admire anyone who can sign their name to posts (you'll see I'm not brave enough to do so!) Emma wasn't in my personal top 3, but like you said, I wasn't sitting with the judges all 4 nights + the interviews. Either way, congrats to Emma on such an accomplishment. Nice to meet you here in cyberspace.

Kudos Patty for not only standing up for Emma, but for doing so with your name next to your remarks. I'm a loan lurker and first time poster who first found out about this forum two years ago after witnessing my first local... The one constant here - SPINELESS POSTERS.

It is one thing to sit on the sidelines or stand next to the water cooler and play Monday morning quarterback. It's another entirely to viciously attack others and do so without the courage to sign your name at the end of your remarks. But that's the norm around these parts.

At the day's end, this is a pageant meant to build up girl's self esteem, courage, stage presence, and an opportunity to earn a few scholarship dollars along the way. What it appears to have devolved into, here in the day and age of helicopter parents and self-absorbed, social media obsessed children, is a volatile, vent zone where bitter, disappointed miscreants serve as sycophants to perpetuate an unending sense of entitlement amongst the contestants and their hyper-biassed parents.

The one thing you should not expect to find here is rational discourse or constructive criticism... it's just loathing, self pity, self-aggrandizing, and an unending stream of jealousy.

Your daughter was beautiful on stage and I hope she made you very proud.

Just want to make clear that I highly disagree with any negative talk about Shea. I've known and competed with her for years and she has been the nicest and most welcoming girl to me. I have never heard her say anything about anyone. Furthermore, if you wish to keep saying ridiculously rude things, why don't you grow a backbone and just message her directly instead of hiding behind this platform to avoid the consequences of your hurtful words.
