Well, Cindy, I know two people who claim they have lived in haunted houses, and I have no reason to doubt these folks. One was a girlfriend who bought a house a number of years ago. It had been owned by an elderly couple. She was in a nursing home, and he had recently died, when my friend had bought the house. She has lots of stories about strange happenings, but the one that sticks in my mind is about the fireplace. My friend had her husband bring in some wood one morning, so it would be dry enough to use when they got home from work that night. Well, when she got home, there was no wood by the fireplace...her husband swears he had brought it in. This happened a couple of days in a row! Well, she had already had some strange expenriences in the house, and she decided on a hunch to have the fireplace checked out. Turns out there was something wrong with the chimney..a crack, I think...which was a fire hazard. She had it fixed, and never had disappearing wood again. There were lots of things happen like this...usually to do with the house itself, as if the previous owner was still trying to take care of it. Things stopped happening in the house, just after his wife in the nursing home passed away. It was as if he was just waiting for her.
The other person was my brother. They had bought a house, and started fixing it up before moving in, and strange things started happening then. He would be upstairs doing something and his wife downstairs. She would hear a big crash, like he fell of a ladder and go running to see if he was ok. He was fine and hadn't heard a thing. The next time it would be he who would hear something and go running only to find she was ok. Finally one day, my sister in law stood in the middle of the house and told the ghosts "We're not leaving, you know. No matter what you do, we're not leaving." After that, they were friendlier and would just pick up after you from time to time. I don't know if was ghosts, or if there is some other explanation...but ghost of the previous owner is probably a possibility. Your ghost sounds friendly, since it unlocked the door for you. I would bet you, whether you try to communicate with it or not, you're going to hear from it again. :)
