I do not know if anyone on the site is familar with that now defunct allage club Rockhaven/matrix located on main st. A friend of mine DJ'ed there and got to know the owner pretty well. As i usually stayed around with him afterhours, we got to lookin around the place and from my friends horsing around,one of them was pushed into the front coat closet and the whole back wall just swung backwards, revealing a sort of trap door like thing. Behind that door was like a little hallway that goes around the entire building, and had a set of stairs to the upstairs to the same thing. Anyways, right near the trapdoor to the left, there was a manhole type thing split in half so that it could be opened. Under that was a very narrow and cramped spiral concrete staircase that went down to another level, which was very creepy. Strange enough, it did have a lightbulb down there that worked, and what was illuminated was a brick room that was not very big, maybe 10x6 with another small room off to the side, which wasnt lighted up and we really didnt want to go back there seeing as it had a ominous feel to it. There were a bunch of old checks that were voided in a few boxes, from circa 1950's if i still remember right. we took a few as souveniers, but i lost mine. the floor was dirt, and the walls were brick. Apparently, what we were told wasthat the building used to be alot of different things, including a bank (the checks) and a stripjoint/brothel. We also heard that the room was where some strippers were killed and buried, but who knows. id like to find out though what it used to be, if anyone else remembers it or can help, send me an email or post back here.
