As with all fouls and violations, we base on calls on the principles of advantage / disadvantage. If a player is gaining an advantage from standing in the restricted area for more than three secons and you cannot 'talk them out' in the mean time it is a three second violation. The only exception in the rules is where a player is in the key for two seconds receives a pass, turns and shoots, and even if this takes a further two seconds. This is not a violation

Whats the story with three seconds are we calling it?
