[x]nostrils flared in a seemingly casual manner, inhaling the other's scent, storing it away in his mind for future use. rule numero uno of keeping your own territory: know who's in it, and know who's not. refusing to grace the female with an answer quite yet, the beast unsheathed his mighty claws. with a silent growl, he stood upon hind quarters, shoulder and arm muscles rippling as he clawed his signature onto the bark of the tree. he wasn't quite absolute ruler of the other felines: merely the absolute ruler of his own territory. uneasy alliances were all that existed between he and others of the land. crashing back down upon all fours, the beast circled the tree once, not even pausing to step over the bag of skin and bones left of the rabbit. he concluded that she was the only one of her kind around, and that there were no others to contend with. search thoroughly done, he sat back contentedly upon haunches, before opening his maw to grace the female with an answer.[x]
