The Autobiography of Bronleg Montip Greensworth.

I was born in the summer, in the northern area of Mossflower Wood. I lived with my mother, Florence Bell Greensworth and my father, Lt. Ethers Hentwold Nagellan Greensworth, in a cave backed by a mountain. We were hard-pressed to survive, but we worked out fine. Then, one day when I was nought but a season old, my father, who was a retired Lieutenant, was summoned to Salamandastron, The Mountain of the Fire Lizard, to do battle against the mighty forces of Rangko, the evil weasel warlord. My father was never to be seen again. So, it was just me and my mother, living in the harsh conditions of the northern wood. One fateful day, when I was six seasons old, we went berry picking in a nearby grove. We were having a merry time when, a fox and a gang of ragtag vermin surrounded us. The fox wielded a wicked looking scimitar, and demanded we hand over our vittles and valuables. One of the vermin kicked me into a bush. There I watched, horrified, as my mother spat at the fox, and how the fox just scowled at her and raised his scimitar to do what it was made for. I shut my eyes, not wanting to see the horrible scene. I heard a sickening slice of metal on flesh, and a thump, which I knew what had hit the ground. I just sat there, staying silent as the vermin grabbed our belongings and left. I sat there, day and night, terrified to go out of the bush and see the bloody scene I knew was out there. One day, a squirrel jumped into my bush, looking for pinecones. When he saw me, he jumped almost to the top of the tree. He cautiously climbed back down and inspected me. "Phew! You not be bad beast!" he said. "Hello! M'names Redtail!" "Hello, my name's Bronners, wot!" I said. Redtail shook his head. "I always wonder why hares say, 'wot, wot' all the time. It confizzling." Redtail and I became great friends and he showed me to Redwall. I lived with Redtail's family in the Abbey. And that, is where I live, today.

THE END
