Riverrose was born to an otter family when they were in the southeast corner of Mossflower. Her father, Oakpaw, was a large brawny otter who served the Skipper as the javlin-carrier. Her mother was called Aria, and she was an outcast of the otter tribe. Some had ventured to call her 'vermin'. It was true; she was half ermine, desendant of Foxwolf's Dirgecallers. She was white, with teeth and claws unlike the otters with a different frame. Aria kept to herself, very protective of her heritige.
When Riverrose was scarecly a year old, Oakpaw was named cheif when the Skipper was killed by vermin. He did this job well, but only two years into being leader, got Dryditch fever. Oakpaw died a month later.
Aria became Skipper. This was detested by all the otter mothers, and they still hissed she was vermin. Aria, however, was a wise and powerful Skipper. She held the otter tribe together with a powerful paw, bringing up Riverrose.
When vermin attacked Redwall, Aria led the otter tribe on a great journey to aid their friends. However, her back leg was broken on this patrol. She could not walk again.
When the tribe reached the Abbey, Aria stayed with Riverrose, always in the Sick Bay. The other Dibbuns sometimes get scared of her ermine-like claws and teeth, white fur, and black eyes, as well as the sleekness of her ansestors. Really, Riverrose is a shy, agile, with a great aim. She is an expert tracker.
