This is me story o' mystery an' woe (jest kiddin'!): *Deep in Mossflower Woods, a long way from Redwall Abbey, was a small encampment next to a thin river. Smoke whisped from the chimnies, and a group o' burly hedgehogs were tillin' a raft wid a wobbly liddle cabin midships down the river. The leader, wearing a long plaid overcoat that reached his floppy black boots, stood at the wheel, barking out orders. The rings fastened to his spikes clinked as he turned his head to fix his gaze on a small hogbabe in a brown barkcloth smock sitting by the edge. Remus Spikedog, Chieftain o' the Spikedog tribe, picked up his daughter, Tumbletail.* Come 'ere, me heartie! Almost home, now! *Remus handed the babe to a pretty hogwife and winked at her.* Take care o' our liddle babby, Lena. She'll make a great tribe leader! *Lena smiled and nodded, gazing fondly at the hedgehog baby as she walked into the cabin.

A few hours later, the raft was docked and hedgehogs were milling about busily 'round the encampment. Remus was in a thouhtful mood, watching the activities with interest. A group o' Spikedog scouts, their green and brown tunics making them almost invisible as they blended into the background foliage. They all saluted as they stood in front of their leader.* Report, sah! Been travellin' fer 'bout three days, day an' night, an' found a big sandstone buildin' spires an' all. Goes by the name o' Redwall Abbey, Chief Spikedog! *Remus's mind quickened. Could this be the new life he was looking for? Even though the life o' a Spikedog was great, this would be much more profitable, he calculated.* Rogg, round up the tribemates, tell 'em we're leavin' fer Rewall Abbey, as a tribe! *A big male hedgehog, his fur dyed white, gaped a moment, and then trundled off, spreading the news like wildfire, as some others who heard the conversation got the raft ready. In a few moments, everyone was aboard, and Remus Spikedog stood at the helm of the swift watercraft, his wife Lena and daughter Tumbletail at his side as they embarked on their journey for Redwall Abbey.*

THE END
