Sooo... on Monday SOCOM3 came out for the PS2.

I didn't bring my PS2 to school because, as I told Shinco, I want to graduate in fewer than 6 years. However my friend across the hall brought his, and we have been playing whenever we don't have work (we alternate one of us working/reading while the other plays).

Let me say that I love Halo2 more than you can imagine, and I have played it many a night on live and LANing vs friends, but this game rocks its world. 16v16 action with lag only happening when basically all 32 people cram into one spot, and even then it's only occasional and not a big factor. Encumberance means fewer people running around with "newb cannons", and the maps are huge so rarely does the said "32 people in 100 sq. ft." even happen. The vehicles are cool and, like in Halo, they're fun, but thankfully don't dominate the game.

Personally I find games where you don't re-spawn much more fun because there are rewards for playing well and consequences for being a gung-ho idiot. Of course on the flip side it makes for more campers and frustration sometimes, but I think it's worth it. If you take down 3 enemies before dying yourself, you get congratulated by your team come the next round. In other games, if you kill 3 then die, you all respawn 5 seconds later and usually no one even notices except you.

So yes, I will stop orgasming over this game and let you try to find a friend and experience it for yourself. Be wary though, if you haven't played many console first person shooters, particularly Socom's 3rd-person style, you may be on the receiving end of a lot of ass-whoopings.

Then again, if you prefer a re-spawn style game, then more power to you, I love a little deathmatch and CTF craziness every now and then. Hell, I think Team Fortress Classic was by far and away the best mod for Half Life (counter-strike was too easy to abuse when you got good).

Back to problem sets with me...
